Proposal Writer/Consultant
Position Description
The Proposal Writer supports the Sales Executive with the completion of unsolicited proposals as well as responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Request for Information (RFIs), questionnaires (e.g., ICD-10, security and technical) and other related requests. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, the Proposal Writer:
Provides proposal management, project management, writing and editing expertise
Leads proposal development teams consisting of sales, subject matter experts and others, including at times individuals from other McKesson business units or partners, to ensure successful completion and delivery
Maintains database content (in collaboration with other team members)
Develops and updates tools for field, including do-it-yourself pricing proposal templates, proposal templates and model RFPs as assigned
Ensures application of McKesson style, legal and other guidelines
Participates in process improvement projects as assigned
This position may also work on Strategic Marketing projects, e.g., write copy for marketing collateral and websites, support the development and revision of various marketing projects.
The Proposal Writer works with closely with the Sales Executive, Senior Proposal Manager and with other teams or individuals in many departments and levels across the organization to develop a persuasive, compliant and thorough response for government and commercial clients. This position typically leads proposals of average complexity and helps with high complexity proposals, but will occasionally be required to lead proposals with high complexity. The Proposal Writer is expected to utilize Proposal Team tools and follow Proposal Team processes and best practices at all times.
Minimum Requirements
4
years experience in proposal analysis
Critical Skills
3-5 years of experience writing proposals or related experience, preferably for a healthcare and/or technology market, or related experience
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Ability to manage projects independently demonstrating good judgment regarding when to ask for help
Ability to network throughout matrixed organization to obtain answers to question
Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization to ensure successful response
Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines
Ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality work
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Internet Explorer
Attention to detail-oriented and follow-up
Must be able to work independently
Strong project management skills
Strong teaming skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
Strong proficiency in content management software preferred
Strong understanding of APMP/Shipley guidelines preferred
Education
Bachelor's level degree in a related subject area preferred (e.g., Communications, English, Business, Marketing, and Journalism)
Certifications/Licensure
APMP certification preferred
