Vice President, Software Engineering

General Summary
The VP Software Engineering is responsible for technology product lines in Newton MA outside of Boston. This includes SAAS products sold to health care providers (acute and post-acute) as well as health care payers, as well as software products to support internal care management operations.
The VP Software Engineering will assist in developing the vision and roadmaps to execute current and future company goals and objectives to provide the best technology in market segments and effectively consolidate technology products acquired through M&A activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The VP Software Engineering is responsible for the software engineering teams, primarily project management, requirements management, development, and quality assurance.
Serves as liaison with Product Management.
Participates as a member of the information technology senior management team in establishing governance processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately, and the organization's resources are used responsibly.
Collaborates with the appropriate departments to assess and recommend technologies that support company organizational needs.
Leads strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for evaluation, development, and deployment
Selects and manages company staff, onshore and offshore contractors, and outsourced vendors
Oversees R&D work to attain maximum efficiency in the design and production of technology products
Directs activities so that products are developed on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives and meet market demands
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices
Ensures that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization
Shares knowledge, mentors, and educates the organization's investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders with regard to the company's technological vision, opportunities, and challenges
Minimum Qualifications
BS/BA in computer science, business administration or related major or equivalent combination of education and experience. A graduate degree in one of these fields is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to envision and architect technology products that meet consumer needs and solve business problems
Minimum of 12 years of professional experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience managing tech teams
Extensive experience in scalable n-tier development Java and/or C#
Keen business acumen and proven management abilities to manage software engineering teams of 75
resources including onshore and offshore
Knowledge and Skills
Experience with scalable agile methods
Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications
Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management, budgeting, and administrative operations
Forthright and a collaborative team player who has experience being a member of a high-performance management team
Ability to have effective two-way communication with management and development teams
Provide leadership and motivation to the development team via a dynamic, confident and professional demeanor
Experience with healthcare technology and data is preferred
